Food Trends 2018 - Taste of Amsterdam

We are always looking for the newest trends when it comes to food and drinks. That is why we made a selection of the most fun food trends according to several foodies!

Fermenting
Currently fermenting, pickling and preserving is becoming more and more popular. Because, of reaching the mainstream, we believe that 2018 is going to be the year of fermenting. The products that will be produced with this technique are for example: Kimchi, miso and kefir, but onion and garlic as well.

Hawaiian
Nowadays one trend is getting a lot of attention, and that’s “Poke bowls”, an everyday product from Hawaii. It is a s simplified way of serving sushi, not in rolls, but in a bowl. In Amsterdam you will find it on a lot of menus already, and will continue to appear at a lot more places this year.

Tea
Great news for tea lovers, tea has never been this populair. The consumption of tea is increasing, and you can even see tea bars opening all around. Tea finally gets, just like coffee, the recognition coffee already had because of it’s many variations.

Black Food
Black food is going to make some big steps in 2018. The burned looking food is made from charcoal, which is nowadays used as detox-mineral. It may sound weird, but kitchens all around the world are already using this product and you can find it as ingredient in many healthy juices/smoothies.
